the book "where did I come from" is great for younger kids. my mom read it to me when I was about 5. then there is a book for older kids called "what's happening to me" that is really good for before and during puberty. these books are very basic and wonderful, not to mention cute cartoons as well. I guess that times have changed and they now have videos as well.

good luck!

As a nurse midwife and mother of 3 young boys, I was in search of a good book to help with this sort of discussion. I found a book by the American Medical Association listed above and have to say this is by far the best book out there for my boys and then for my young female patients.

For whatever reason, I had never thought about this before but we have two boys so I am very much looking forward to reading about your experience with this. Even though my boys are young, I can use all the preparation help I can get! Thanks for sharing!

I have 5 kids ranging from 12 years down to 4, along with a 10 year boy.
My wife and I have been providing information as applicable since they have been young but I did have occasion to have the "talk" with 10 year old based on some things that had come up.
I think you are in the best position to determine the information on sexuality that is timely and suits the sensibility of the child.
It's kind of a living dialog in the sense that he feels free to pull me aside to ask me questions about sexual intercourse and sexuality and he sees, hopefully, a healthy model within our marriage and our family.
Good luck!
