I looked into the timer shower and if they shut it off for 5 min they can turn it right back on, very frustrating!

I just want to say thank you for all your comments! I no longer feel so alone! Wow! Who would have said it is so difficult to control a kid taking a shower! - By the way, short of locking the bathroom door and throwing away the key, I have tried everything but the expensive shut off timer. It's starting to look like the best option at this time.

The timer did not work for us, so here is our solution without having to spend $300.00 on a showerhead that automaticly shuts off. We installed a $30.00 door handle with a lock and key, my boys now have to ask us for the key and they have 15 min to get in, shower and give the key back. If the key is not returned in the 15 min they are allowed then they forfeit their shower time for the following day. We have a downstairs bathroom with a sink and toilet. They keep a bag with thier toiletries in it and use that bathroom in the mornings to brush thier teeth. We also installed a lock on our masterbedroom so they don't have access to that shower either when we are not home. This has been very effective for us. We have been doing this for about 10 days or so and so far so good!!

I have two roommates that like to take showers lasting longer than 10 minuets. I am looking for a timer that can be installed just on the hot water line of the shower that will cut the hot water off after a pre-set time lapse. My plumber has no knowledge of an existing product like this. Can one be improvised using an irrigation timer? and can this be installed in the copper line?

That's a great idea and I'm afraid I might have to borrow your idea too! My 2 daughters spend forever in the shower and my bill has been increasing rather a lot. Thanks so much for the help and I hope your boys are keeping to the timer.

Sorry, but with 2 teeneage boys in my house the only effective way is to find your main water shut off valve and when the time is up, turn off the water!! They ingnore all the timers and the yelling from us to get out. My boys are home alone while my husband and I work so shower time always seems to be whenever they feel like it. When the parents aren't home the timer dosen't work!!

Try these products. They automatically shut off the water:

http://showermanager.com/

http://www.showertimer.com.au/shower-timer-purchase.htm

These timers are cute, but just make a noise.

Here is the hour glass one. We got one of these for free today.

We have three typical teenage girls and showers are out of control.
