Skateboarding? No Thanks

Written by dad - 4 Comments

Wow. After seeing this, I couldn’t be happier that our kids have yet to show any interest in skateboarding. I’m sure it’s just a matter of time, but at least we’re safe for now…

(Don’t worry, it’s not bloody.)

Talk about a brutal crash. Ouch.

As an aside, if one of your colleagues says (in all seriousness) that he thought you were dead after a workplace mishap, you might want to think about getting into a new line of work.

Update: The original video was taken down. This one is still pretty good, although it doesn’t include the reverse-angle. Thus, it’s harder to see things like his shoes pop off when he lands.

  1. My guys had a short interest in doing the skateboarding themselves, but always get motivated to doing other ‘extreme’ activities after watching the X games (on now!)

I once walked outside to find my then 7 year old youngest son at the top of our playground slide with his rollerblades on and a skateboard ramp at the bottom! When I asked what he was doing–his response was, “it’s ok mom, I have a helmet on!”. To which his then 10 year old brother responded, “yeah, and the rollerblades work better than the bike!”

How do we ever survive parenting?! ;)

That is absolutely hilarious! My oldest is just turning 5, but I’ve already caught him at the top of the slide trying to ride various objects down it. Fortunately he hasn’t tried building a ramp at the bottom…yet.

  3. You have to buy your kids skateboards, otherwise they will hang around in front of the pc and have no friends!! so guess what’s better?? being outside and skateboarding where you get in shape instead of fat!! think about that.

  4. Stu: You’re right that it’s important to get kids outside and exercising (as well as socializing). However, skateboarding isn’t the only form of outdoor exercise. Our kids have bikes, a basketball hoop, soccer balls, a forest out back to run around in, etc.
