My oldest son is adopted from Russia-in fact today July 5th is the 7th anniversary of us first meeting him. The process was long 18 months from the time we signed the contract with the agency until we went to Russia. And that wasn't a smooth process. And yes it is expensive but worth every single penny.

I think you make several good points. I have been looking into adoption for several years. I too have felt called all of my life to adopt, before I was even married. Wow! The only area that I feel you left out was Foster to Adopt system through the local DCFS, Dept of Children and Family Services. This option is a great option, in that these children usually have a montly stipend that you recieve, health insurance, a college fund, and a yearly extra expense allotment. They do of course have some issues to work through, but the impact that you can have on a childs life who has suffered abuse at the hands of their birth parents or family is immeasurable. Just wanted to add some info for you. If you are interested in this type of adoption, you go to www.adoptuskids.com

At some point, you need to look into whether the type of adoption is ethical (by your own standards). I think this is more relevant for international adoptions, about how it has been decided that this child should be up for adoption. It needs to be something that you can live with.
