Peanut Butter Recalled due to Salmonella

Written by dad - Leave a Comment

In case you haven’t heard, the CDC has linked a salmonella outbreak to Peter Pan peanut butter as well as Wal-Mart’s Great Value peanut butter — both of which are produced by ConAgra Foods, Inc. Thus far, nearly 300 people nationwide. While ConAgra claims innocence, and states that all of their tests have been negative, [...]

New Comment Spam Blocking Strategy

Written by mom & dad - Leave a Comment

Just a quick note to say that we’ve implemented a new strategy for blocking comment spam. We’ve tested it out over at FiveCentNickel and it seems to be working well with no negative side effects, so we’re rolling it out here, as well. If you have any trouble leaving comments, please let us know so [...]

Preschool Registration Madness

Written by mom - 7 Comments

It’s 4:22 am and I’m here waiting to sign up Son #4 for preschool. I’m #23 on the unofficial sign-up list. A volunteer is expected to arrive at 5 am to take the official sign ups with registration starting at 8 am. This approach was meant to stave off any “camping out” in the parking [...]

Movie Rating Website

Written by dad - 5 Comments

I just ran across a great movie rating website called Kids-In-Mind. Instead of giving you a one-size-fits-all rating (e.g., G, PG, PG-13, etc.), Kids-In-Mind provides you with a 1-10 rating for Sex & Nudity, Violence & Gore, and Profanity. On top of this, they provide an itemized list of possibly offensive scenes such that you [...]

Changes, Improvements, and Fixes (Oh My!)

Written by mom & dad - One Comment

Just a quick note to fill you in on a few things… First of all, we love reading your comments. This is a big part of the reason that we’ve had a leader board over there in the right sidebar for quite awhile now. The purpose of the leader board has been to give some [...]

A Father is Born

Written by dad - One Comment

I just ran across this and thought that it was worth sharing: “When a child is born, a father is born. A mother is born, too of course, but at least for her it’s a gradual process. Body and soul, she has nine months to get used to what’s happening. She becomes what’s happening. But [...]

Five Year Old Birthday Party Disappointment

Written by dad - 8 Comments

As we wrote about a few weeks back, Son #3 just had his five year old birthday party. While he was pushing for a Transformers birthday party, we ended up doing a firefighter theme. Truth be told, he only wanted the Transformers theme because he thought that would guarantee that he’s get Transformers as gifts. [...]
