Don’t Let Your Kids Get Ahold of Your Checkbook
This past Sunday night I sat down to pay some bills when much to my surprise I opened the check and found a $1,000,000 check made out to our nine year old son. Not surprisingly, it was written in his own handwriting. When I flipped to the next check, it was made out to our six year old son (made out in his own, slightly messier handwriting) to the tune of another $1,000,000. When I flipped to the third check, it was a $2,000,000 check that was made out to our six year old (once again written in his own hand). And when I flipped to the fourth check, it was once again a $2,000,000 check, this time written by our six year old and payable to his older brother — what a generous guy!
Needless to say, I just about fell out of my chair laughing. It was late, but my wife was (thankfully) on West Coast time, so I could call her and share the humor of the moment. When I asked the boys about it on Monday morning, they sheepishly admitted to having done it. beyond this, they were utterly amazed that we didn’t actually have that much money in the bank! I wonder if this explains why we have to order checks so often in our household.
I was hoping to post ‘sanitized’ versions of the checks but our scanner is down for the count.

You can send the checks to me and I’ll gladly post them… to my bank account!

We use the bills as our business cards, so I always have a dozen in my wallet. It is fun to see people do a double take.
