Here’s an interesting twist on stem cells… It seems that British football (i.e., soccer) players have started saving their babies’ umbilical cords in an attempt to preserve stem cells that could one day used to repair their injured knees. According to one player, “Having your stem cells — a repair kit if you like — on hand makes sense.” Of course, the players aren’t the only ones that stand to (potentially) benefit — the cells could also have therapeutic uses for their kids, as well. At an estimated cost of a bit over $2800 (£1500 for you Brits), more than 11,000 Britons (and not just footballers) have opted for cryogenic storage of their kids’ cord blood thus far.

Whatever happened to the first day of school jitters? Our boys slept like logs the night before they went back to school, and had no butterflies in their bellies the morning of. They seemed properly excited and handled everything with grace and dignity. In fact, they were “cool as cucumbers.” This is very different from how I remember the first day of school. [more]

Ten years ago today, my wife and I got married. In the time since that fateful day, we’ve moved on five different occasions, had four kids, lived in three states, bought two houses, and sold one. And we’ve created an awful lot of wonderful memories.
I owe pretty much all of my success, both personally and professionally, to my wife. She picks me up when I’m down, keeps me grounded and focused on what’s really important in life, and does an unbelievable job of keeping our family running on all cylinders (no matter how busy I get). Plus, she’s a babe.
What more could a guy ask for?
