Dinnertime Conversation

Last night at dinner, our youngest (20 months) was keeping himself occupied with a constant stream of indecipherable chit-chat when our four year old suddenly turned to him and asked:

What the hell are you saying?

Our six and eight year old were understandably flabbergasted, and I was less than thrilled. But wait… It gets better…

Later on during the same meal, our six year old turned to our eight year old and said:

You’re really sek-c.” (As in sexy, but with a slightly different pronunciation.)

Clearly he didn’t quite know what he was saying, but it certainly cracked everyone up.

Fun With Dry Ice

The other night the boys and I had a grand old time with some dry ice that I brought home from work, and I’ve got the pictures to prove it… We started out small, just splashing some water on it and watching it “smoke.” We also melted a chunk so the kids could see why it’s called dry ice (there’s no water, duh!). From there, we started to get more creative. [more]

Cool Summer Activities

While the nation is experiencing a summer heat wave, I’ve been trying to come up with “cool kid activities to keep us cool.” So far, we’ve made it to the pool almost everyday. We also been to our new (new to us, anyway) county library. We recently happened upon preschool story time to the delight of my “littles,” but much to the chagrin of my “bigs.” Fortunately, the “bigs” were able to use the buddy system to look at the juvenile books instead.

We’ve tried the mall, but what was a mecca for me before I had a large entourage has now turned into a very stressful place. I’ve even considered the movie theater during a delusional moment when I somehow forgot that my one and four year olds can’t sit still for longer than five minutes. I would LOVE to take my “bigs” to Cars or Pirates, but that’s just not going to happen. I guess we’ll wait until they come out on DVD and have a family movie night.

Any other ideas for cool kid activities? And by cool, I mean both attention-grabbing and air-conditioned.

Pregnancy, Sex and Labor

Good news for all of you dads-to-be out there… While it’s long been thought that sexual intercourse late in pregnancy can stimulate labor, there’s now scientific evidence in support of this idea. That’s right… [more]

Remember the 80s?

I had an eye opening and nostalgic conversation with our four year old the other day. When we were at the pool, he inquired, “Mom do you remember the 1980’s?”

“Yes, honey,” I answered after a silent chuckle, “I was in high school and college at the time.” Where was he going with this?

Then he asked, “Can you tell me a story about the 1980’s?” [more]
