Move? What Move?

Written by mom - One Comment

If you’ve been keeping up with fivecentnickel.com, then you already know that we’re moving out of state very soon. Yesterday my husband closed on our current house — we chose for me to give him power of attorney for the close to avoid bringing our young boys to the lawyer’s office. Everything went smoothly and, since we don’t buy our new house until next week, we are technically (at least on paper) homeless. But never fear! We negotiated a week’s stay and still have a roof over our heads.

I’ve been telling everyone that I’m in total denial about the move. But that can’t last much longer, as the pace around here is really starting to pick up. The man from Rainbow Installations is coming today to disassemble our play structure. Just to be on the safe side, I had to forewarn the boys about this. So far, everything about the move has been semi-intangible to them (except for the brief time spent looking for our future house). I woud imagine that taking down their beloved play structure, on the other hand, will really resonate with my young crew. Our backyard will look VERY different. It’s hard to predict their reactions (or mine, for that matter).

Beyond this, I think that my husband is a little worried about my mental health. He gently reminded me that we need to start packing the things we don’t want to go on the moving truck (which comes the middle of NEXT WEEK!), like clothes for during the move, cleaning supplies, and certain toys. I already knew that, but I can’t seem to get rid of my self-induced amnesia. Move? What move? Maybe taking down the play structure will give me a sense of reality. Let’s hope it does, for my husband’s sake.

  1. Thankfully, I was not nearly as invested in my previous abode when I moved a few months ago. I just couldn’t wait to get out of dodge. Of course, I’d only been there 3 years, and had gotten tired of the constant smoke filtering up through my floor for the past year plus.

    Good luck next week.
